My Uncle’s Diabetes and the Free Glucometer

From the time that I could remember him, my uncle Tom was always a food lover. Ever sincle I was a child I remember him to be fat.

Matilda, my aunt and his wife, nearly always did her best in making him stop his bad diet regime, but I have to admit, she hasn’t been very successful. In fact, Matilda would always cook healthy meals for him, like soups and meals that are based on vegetables, while seeking to eliminate any foods that are high in fats. Matila wouldn’t prepare any after meal desserts, unless it was some special day.

Unfortunately my uncle always loved to consume sweets, or be it all kinds of food that contained sugar. No wonder that uncle Tom goes regularly into the food store to purchase all foodstuffs he crazes for.

Consuming an entire packet of biscuits at tea time is normal for uncle Tom. One should not forget that my uncle works inside an office, so who knows which kind of food does he consume during work hours. I realize that a sandwich and apple won’t satisfy his hunger and who know how many sweets does he eat during work.

My uncle never paid attention to his doctor’s advice to limit his food intake. ”We live once and we die once”, he tells when people tell him that she should lose some weight. Tom’s children (my cousins) also love sweets. Since childhood they got used to their father’s love for sweets, so this could be expected.

The story changed about a few weeks ago when my uncle was informed that he has diabetes type 2. Initially uncle Tom couldn’t believe the doctor but he got astonished and amazed when he realized that it was not a joke.

Another thing the doctor told him was to buy a glucose meter or at least to apply for an absolutely free glucose meter. His doctor told him that the vital thing he should do is watching what food he eats, especially where sweets are involved.

Tom remains to be bewildered based on the words of his doctor. My uncle has noticeably decreased his consumption of sweets, biscuits, fizzy drinks etc, but he has been very depressed recently. As Tom still has to order a glucose testing kit I though that I could be of help.

A few days ago I Googled for “glucose meters”. It was then that I found a web site that lets you apply for a glucose meter at no charge. A point I would like to note is the fact that glucose meters are also called as glucometers.

At that point I inserted my uncle’s info in the form provided in order to receive a free glucose meter. Okay, uncle Tom could have easily subscribed himself for a 100% free glucose meter, but yet I am precisely looking to assist.

I wish that uncle Tom may soon receive the free glucose meter.
